Report for Previous Meeting

June 2009

The June meeting had us explore the gamut of Windows systems from everyday software to the latest hardware.  There was an external disk drive that would work in XP but not in Vista.  Our experts came up with a cache tweak and an obscure ownership fix believed to make it work.

We had a retro look at floppy drives for a member and we were told about a website with good resources for modern backup.

Another query was about a simple new notebook and what specs it should have, then we added the basic software set for a safe and reliable setup. Quite a few pros and cons.

Tony F had a 'Compile error' message and it was decided that a stock trading program needed an update.

We wandered through some old DOS reserved words and their affect on today's OSs.

And finally we had a go at solving Office 97's refusal to background print.

After the break we were presented with at look at some special sites preparing for Windows 7.  Managing drives, checking on services, features videos, security, a 7RC fix, Windows Live Sync, and many more.  Excellent coverage.
