A number of users experience difficulty in placing a CD track into Studio. This, I believe is because many texts on the subject omit two vital steps. For completeness I have described how to do it using Studio. The steps printed in bold below are essential; otherwise the rip is not completed. With the project open and in edit mode proceed with the following steps. The bold uppercase steps are essential, as the CD is not ripped until that point.
- Open Toolbox /Add CD Window
- Insert the CD into CD or DVD drive.
- The CD Drive window for the particular drive will open, click on "No action" and OK
- If the CD has not been used in Studio before you are prompted to enter the name of the CD. If it has been used previously the CD will be automatically recognised and its name will appear.
- Select the desired track number and click on the play arrow to hear the tack and check it is the one you want.
- If you only want to use part of the track, slide the start and end trim callipers to the desired locations and test play the selected portion.
- Position the time line scrubber on the timeline to the start position for the music.
- Click on the "Add Music Button"
- CLOSE THE CD CAPTURE WINDOW BY CLICKING ON THE TOP RIGHT X
- CLICK ON THE PLAY ARROW IN THE PREVIEW WINDOW. A window will automatically appear showing the progress of the capture, which is very fast. The music track will begin to play as soon as the rip is completed.
- Reposition the track on the time line to the exact location and trim further if necessary.
- The CD can be now removed from the drive and will not be needed again for that track, unless you wish to use the same music elsewhere on the same timeline, at which time it must be recaptured using the steps above.
