Shown below is a list of Linux Distributions available from MelbPC as at 27th Feb 2012. Members can get them from the Internet Lounge as downloadable .iso files, or from the MelbPC Office if you prefer custom made disks.

Note that 32 bit distributions will work on either 32 bit or 64 bit computers, but 64 bit distributions require a 64 bit computer.

| ** | The Standard Desktop Environment (DE) for a distribution is the DE provided unless specified otherwise. Gnome and KDE are currently the most popular. Fedora, Mageia, and OpenSUSE have separate live CDs for the Gnome and KDE DEs. PCLinuxOS has separate live CDs for the KDE and Xfce DEs. The Standard DE for Ubuntu is now Unity. Alternatives are Kubuntu (KDE) and Xubuntu (Xfce4). Mandriva has a DVD with a customised KDE Interface. DVDs usually provide both Gnome and KDE desktops and one or two other lightweight DEs more suitable for use in older computers. |
