This month's presentation was on queries, only those that are available in the "Query Type" dropdown list seen in the Query Design Window. Queries for DDL (Data Definition Language) such as "CREATE TABLE", "ALTER TABLE", "DROP TABLE" etc will shown at another time, there's too much to cover in half hour. This was followed by a lively Question and Answer session conducted by Craig Evans... Greetings experienced programmers .... newcomers .... those in between .... at our last meeting we discussed : A date field that accepts full & partial dates & formats correctly. Intricate formatting code required. Rethink preferred. Linking Access to the internet. A book was available at the meeting for perusal. A cheap database is MySQL which operates in a text environment. Date problems. Using the Now() function calculates a date to the second, better to use Date() as it defaults to midnight enabling identical dates & therefore grouping/calculating/filtering etc. The WeekDay inbuilt function was used to always select a weekday in the future. Showing the date range on the report. Use date fields on a form to feed the query & have the report refer to the date fields on the form. A calendar control was causing overflow problems, 'Error 6'. This control was originally designed for Access2 & in Access95/97 some variables were renamed. Renaming the variables will fix the problem. Access 2000 & XP being used on a Windows97 machine. A printer related problem even though both are Canons, 1 cheap & 1 expensive. May need to enter Page Setup & narrow the width of the data on the report. Also the wizards were gone - reinstall suggested. Most of the above was demonstrated on a fully active database. For more solutions & amazing discoveries drop in to the Access S.I.G., second Monday of the month except January - 6:30pm to 8:30pm. All problems readily accepted. If you are not completely satisfied with our solutions we will happily return your problems with a smile & no questions asked :-) You will benefit most if you are currently working on a database - but don't let that deter you from coming along. Bring your database with you and we'll probably fix it on the spot. Remember : All the solutions are simple - some just take longer to figure out. http://groups.melbpc.org.au/~access/
